Across Europe, the shortage of trained actuaries is reaching a critical point, as the industry is experiencing a growth in demand for pension-related services. Difficult and restrictive visa requirements in most mature markets make it increasingly difficult for insurers to obtain actuarial resources from abroad to address their current shortages. In Spain, likewise, although there is no shortage of actuaries in themselves, actuaries are needed who have sufficient experience to provide a full range of services, in particular consulting on the redesign of plans and benefit consulting. The DAV and the DGVFM are trying to counteract the shortage of mathematicians and the resulting shortage of actuaries.
Germany is also experiencing a shortage of trained actuaries, and ongoing legislative changes are creating even more pressure.
