Most actuaries in the U.S. UU. These actuaries use statistics and theory to analyze the financial impact of life, home and auto insurance risks. Generally, the companies that hire actuaries are insurance companies and consultancies.
They represent the largest employers of actuaries, and about 75% of the profession works for these types of companies.
Insurance companies, consulting firms, rating agencies, auditing firms, regulatory agencies, reinsurers, brokerage firms and others hire actuaries, and the actuary's life is different in each of them. The big four (PWC, KPMG, Deloitte, EY) also hire consulting actuaries.
Actuaries work on the East Coast, the Midwest, Texas or California. The reason for this is that most insurance companies and other large employers are located in these states.
They use this information together with mortality rates according to actuarial tables to calculate interest rates on annuity products. Some actuaries work in the public sector and help federal and state governments evaluate changes in Social Security and Medicare benefits and regulate insurance rates.
Across Europe, the shortage of trained actuaries is reaching a critical point, as the industry is experiencing a growth in demand for pension-related services. Difficult and restrictive visa requirements in most mature markets make it increasingly difficult for insurers to obtain actuarial resources from abroad to address their current shortages.
